They were giants in their time. They once ruled the world, archrivals locked in a bitter territorial feud, and other would-be titans who dared encroaching would be devoured. They are Debbie Gibson and Tiffany, and we have the B-movie makers at The Asylum to thank for bringing the former teen idols together in the intentionally horrific farce Mega Python vs. Gatoroid.
Gibson starred with Lorenzo Lamas in Megashark vs. Giant Octopus in 2009 and her attractive blonde scientist was actually one of that picture’s strengths. Tiffany appeared in Mega Piranha—an Asylum take on the success of the bigger-budget goof Piranha 3-D. Now the aging vocal vixens have united—with handsome Latino character actor A. Martinez and the SyFy channel—to battle oversized snakes and crocodiles in the Florida Everglades.
So what’s new, fellow Professionals?
It’s been a busy couple months around here, what with the transition to Word Press. All of us at AIBN hope the new template will facilitate the posting of new articles, and that the new look will trigger pleasing electrical impulses throughout your amygdala. Uploading stories and images was never a small feat on the old site, which partly explains the lag time between the movie reviews and other stuff. The currently featured review of BATTLE: LA is our first in a couple months. So dig it.
Kill the Irishman, now playing in select cities with a large Irish contingent, is a true-crime biopic based on the life of Danny Greene, a notorious union boss-turned-racketeer whose ambition put him at odds with Cleveland’s (largely Italian) Mafioso in the 1970s. Fans of Goodfellas, Casino, and The Godfather saga will love the film’s “wiseguys” and other colorful characters—whose dicey relationships are marked by fierce loyalty and bloody betrayals.
